About procedure
A bullhorn lip lift, also known simply as a lip lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to shorten the space between the top of the upper lip and the base of the nose, known as the philtrum. The procedure is called “bullhorn” because the incision is shaped like a bullhorn or a mustache, situated just below the nose. It is typically performed under local anesthesia.
During the procedure, a strip of skin and possibly some underlying tissue is removed from beneath the nose. The skin is then lifted, and the lip is subtly elevated to reveal more of the vermilion, the pink part of the lip, making the lips appear fuller and more defined. The incision is carefully sutured to minimize visible scarring, with the final scar typically hidden in the natural creases under the nose.
Advantages of a Bullhorn Lift
Enhanced Lip Aesthetics: The bullhorn lift can increase the visibility of the upper lip, making it appear fuller and more prominent. This can enhance the overall balance and harmony of the facial features.
Reduced Philtrum Length: By shortening the philtrum, the face can achieve a more youthful appearance, as a long philtrum is often associated with aging.
Permanent Results: Unlike temporary solutions like fillers, a bullhorn lip lift provides a permanent alteration to the lip area. This can be a significant advantage for those looking for long-lasting results.
Board-certified plastic surgeons consult potential candidates. During the consultation, the surgeon can assess the patient’s facial structure, skin quality, and aesthetic goals to determine if a bullhorn lip lift is the appropriate procedure.
