How to get rid of varicose veins once and for all?
The times when there was one single approach – only one available method – are long gone. There are many ways to get rid of unaesthetic and annoying spider/varicose veins, and the rapidly shifting medicine comes with others every now and then. We will introduce you to the 5 main (most common) approaches that have prevailed in the treatment of varicose veins in recent years. Let’s go…
Speaking of the traditional (surgical) method of removing varicose veins, we need to describe exactly what this is. During this procedure, the enlarged veins are literally pulled out. Inevitably, a scar is formed (about 10 cm long in the groin area). This classic method is not rejected today, on the contrary, if done well, it can lead to great results. However, modern technology allows the procedure to be performed less invasively, achieving the same or better results. There are more options, the main ones are based on the catheterization, i.e. insertion of the probe into the venous system, and as a procedure not done in global anesthesia. It is also quite painless and with minimal scarring, hematomas, etc.
Catheterization methods always require detailed examination by an experienced specialist and the assistance of the most modern sonographic instruments. Duplex sonography is already dominant in the Czech Republic as it enables both black and white and color imaging. Now let’s take a look at the 5 most commonly used methods:
Laser EVL (conversion of light energy to thermal energy)
It is used to treat large varicose veins. From a small puncture with a laser probe inserted inside, only the main vein causing varices is sealed. Varicose veins themselves can then be removed by other methods already during the procedure, or left to gradually reduce or lose.
Radio frequency ClosureFast (conversion of radio frequency energy to thermal energy)
Sealing of the main veins (saphenous veins) on the same principle, only by using a different form of energy.
ClariVein
The ClariVein catheter has been developed for the mini invasive treatment of lower limbs – large and small saphenous veins, and venous connections. The tip of the catheter rotates quickly, which causes the blood vessels to contract. At the same time, the sclerotizing solution is injected into the tip and the rotation of the tip causes the solution to evenly distribute on the inner vein wall. This results in the vein being closed along its entire length.
VenaSeal adhesive
One of the newest methods, developed in the USA, used in the Czech Republic since 2015. The essence is the blockage of the main insufficient stem veins causing varicose veins by sealing with glue.
Sclerotization
Suitable for veins smaller than 1 mm in diameter (micro varices). The procedure consists of the injection of a special substance (using thin needles) directly into the veins, which leads to their gradual absorption. This treatment is an addition to the surgical procedure, regularly performed during the surgery and sometimes even after the surgery.
Finally… these are not competitive methods, but those that can be combined to achieve the best possible result. That is why it is essential to choose specialized clinic and an experienced surgeon. Choose only the best way for you and your legs – to get permanent results, without recurrence.
