David KLECKA, M.D.

Dr David Klečka has formed a part of the team at the Refractive Center Prague since its foundation in 2002. His expertise in the field of refractive surgery however commenced much earlier, while he was working at the ELAS laser centre – a part of the eye clinic at the Královské Vinohrady Hospital. He is a diagnostics specialist and at the refractive Centre Prague, he is one of the senior surgeons.

Dr David Klečka has undertaken numerous domestic as well as overseas fellowships, especially in Germany – clinics in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. He is the author and co-author of several specialized publications. He also led lectures on refractive surgery at renowned ophthalmological congresses.

Personal Life

“When I decided to pursue a career in medicine, I had no idea as to which field to specialize in. There was something of great interest in each one and I was not one of the fortunate ones running around with a stethoscope around their necks boasting absolute clarity about what to do. I am pretty grateful for that! Everything at University is a little different than in real life. During my postgrad work at home as well as in other countries I tried many different fields – I worked as a surgeon, in internal medicine, anaesthesiology. All of the above helped me to get to know medicine as it really is and thus make the right decision for myself. Ophthalmology and especially refractive surgery enchanted me in that it permits me to be present there and then as medicine makes its progress, seeing the immediate effect of my work and sharing in on the joy of a job well done together with my patients.”

About himself

“I am grateful for my health, my family, and my friends. I like polite and intelligent people, good times and music. I love riding my mountain bike and when that is combined with discovering new, breathtaking lands such as our homeland, I am well capable of doing over 8,000 kilometers a year. I love to travel and discover other cultures – I have visited over 50 countries on all continents, but I am just as fond of discovering this little part of the world that never ceases to amaze me – the one I am lucky enough to call my home.”

About his work

“I strive to be polite and honest in life, not just where my immediate surroundings are concerned but in general and especially towards my patients. I wear glasses myself and as such I am well aware that surgery is not the ideal solution for anyone. As such, I want to be professional while at the same time humanely honest towards my patients, always recommending only what I deem to be the very best and most logical solution. This is what I would want if I were the patient. We live at a time when nothing seems to be a problem, where the pressure to perform and make a profit often overshadows logical thinking and a professional approach, and where an internet commercial or several Facebook likes often mean more than an actual job well done. For me, the utmost priority will always be a satisfied patient… it is what makes me want to get up in the morning and go back to work a happy man.”
